Campbell Union School District's Lori Veitch Named District Teacher of the Year 2007
Lori Veitch teaches a kinder/first grade class at Village School, a small parent participation school in Campbell Union School District. Hands-on learning that is firmly based in academic standards is foremost in Lori's classroom, and her students consistently demonstrate strong academic and social skills.
Visitors to Lori’s classroom see quickly that it is a place where children love to learn. It is a vibrant, colorful place where students celebrate different cultures, create models of the solar system, take “field trips” to the corner to mailbox to send a friendly letter to their reading buddies, and resolve problems with their classmates during Lori’s well-managed class meetings.
Those who work with Lori see her dedication and commitment to excellence well beyond her classroom, too.
As a coach to beginning teachers, Lori makes sure they know the routines and procedures, helps them build their skills, and advocates for them if the need arises
Also, Lori serves on the District Curriculum Committee and has assisted with other district-level efforts, including piloting the new Houghton Mifflin Social Studies materials and representing the school on the district’s Faculty Senate. Last year, the Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association named Lori as its Math Teacher of the Year.
Lori holds a masters degree in Curriculum development with an emphasis in Outdoor Education from California State University – East Bay (formerly known as Cal State – Hayward). She keeps her skills up to date through various district, regional and statewide professional development opportunities, including specialized combination class training, workshops at the California Kindergarten Conference, and more.
She is a top-quality teacher who is an excellent example of the quality of our entire district’s faculty, which makes her a credit to our school and district.
