FOR RELEASE: Local Teacher is Educator of the Year Honoree
Campbell, Calif.--Kimberly Thompson, a 6th grade math and social studies teacher at Rolling Hills Middle School, has been chosen as one of 10 local nominees for the Educator of the Year award from the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS).
On December 10, 2009, the Region 5 chapter of CLMS will celebrate the nominees at an awards dinner and will announce which one of the outstanding teachers will represent the region in the CLMS statewide recognition program.
Thompson has been a teacher at Rolling Hills for 15 years. She is highly regarded for her professionalism and active involvement in programs that boost motivation and achievement for middle school students. For example, she coordinates the school's annual Exhibitions program, a research and presentation project that culminates the student's middle school education. She serves on the school's Intervention Team, the AVID site team and the science camp program. She also trains new 6th grade teachers who join the RHMS faculty.
"Kim thrives in the middle school environment," said Rolling Hills Principal Kathy Gibbs. "Not only is she organized and professional about teaching, but she also has great compassion for students, is a strong communicator, and has a wonderful sense of humor. We're so happy that she is receiving this well-deserved recognition."
