Local Students Compete to be Top Speller

 

Three local middle schools are holding Spelling Bees in December to determine who will participate in the district-level event and, perhaps, go on to the Chronicle Scripps Spelling Bee.

 

Top spellers from grades 5 through 8 will participate in school-level spelling bees and, from these events, the top speller from each grade will participate in Campbell Union School DistrictÕs District-wide Bee on Wed., Jan. 13, 2010. 

 

á       Dec. 3, 2009 @ 7 p.m.: Monroe Middle School Spelling Bee, Monroe Middle School, 1055 S. Monroe, San Jose.

á       Dec. 3, 2009 @ 7 p.m.: Rolling Hills Middle School Spelling Bee, Rolling Hills Middle School, 1585 More Ave., Los Gatos.

á       Dec. 16, 2009 @ 7 p.m.: Campbell Middle School Spelling Bee, Campbell Middle School, 295 W. Cherry Land, Campbell.

á       Jan. 13, 2010: District Spelling Bee, Campbell Union School District. (Time and location TBA)

 

ÒThe Spelling Bee is one of very few academic competitions between the schools during the school year,Ó said Campbell Union School District teacher Tracy Brown. ÒOur students are practicing and hoping to bring a new award to their schools.Ó

More than 7,300 students attend our 12 award-winning schools, which serve the communities of Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Saratoga.
